Halloween is such a fun and liberating time to experiment with makeup! It’s that time of the year we get to show off our creativity in the extreme. If you’re a DIY girl like me, you’ll learn to get real thrifty when creating a unique and cute look. Here are some Halloween makeup tips I’ve picked over the years that I’ve done on myself and friends.
Halloween Hack #1: Shaping Your Face
If you’re trying to create a certain shape or design for the face but can’t get it just right – use a stencil. Draw it, cut it, place it on the face and outline it. And if you’re trying to create texture, search your own home for pieces of fabric and other materials. For example: grab a piece of lace, place it on the face, and brush some eye shadow on it (any color!) and viola, no drawing necessary.
Halloween Hack #2: How to Make Fake Blood
Trying to create fake blood splatters without drawing them on? No problem! Grab an angled brush or anything with thick bristles. Dip the ends into "blood," (a mixture of red food coloring, corn syrup, and flour) and run your fingers over the bristles to get a random spray of red. You could also shave off a bit of red lipstick. Mix in a creamy black eyeliner and finish with a dollop of thick, clear lip gloss. Pro-Tip: If you want brighter blood, add more lipstick. For a deeper, dried-blood hue, add in more liner.
Halloween Hack #3: Use Your Primer!
Most importantly use your primer! Apply a liquid base and a finishing spray. A good face primer is really the ‘foundation’ to good makeup. Plus, you want that makeup to last until next Halloween!
