ViItiligo is a medical condition that affects an estimated 1 to 2 million Americans, causing loss of skin pigment (white spots). The cause of vitiligo is unknown but can be genetic in origin or related to autoimmune conditions. Patients’ face and extremities are often affected by this condition.
Vitiligo can be treated using the XTRAC laser, the first FDA-approved laser in the market to treat vitiligo. This new laser will stimulate repigmentation of the skin in patients. The number of treatments is determined based on what area of the body needs to be treated; most treatment sessions last only a few minutes.
The XTRAC laser focuses light only on the affected skin. The number of treatments may vary for each person. Generally repigmentation will begin in 6 to 10 treatments. The treatment is safe and effective and there is no downtime.
Our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Bruce Katz and associates, would be happy to discuss this problem with you and plan a course of treatment. If you have vitiligo, please contact JUVA Skin & Laser Center today or call (212) 688-5882 to schedule a consultation.
