Once you have decided to move forward with a face lift in our New York City office, we will provide you with detailed pre-operative instructions that explain how to best prepare for your procedure. Prior to surgery, you may be asked to adjust your current medications, eliminating those that could increase or prolong bleeding. Some of these medications include:
- Aspirin, Aleve, Advil
- Motrin (or any Ibuprofen containing medicine)
- High-dose Vitamin E
- Fish oil
- Herbal medicines
Your surgeon will also review your prescription medications before surgery. It's a good idea avoid foods high in salt content for a few days, since salt causes your body to retain water, which can potentially increase swelling. Otherwise, no radical changes need to be made to your diet before your procedure.
Optimizing your weight can also be helpful before surgery. You should be as close to your ideal weight as. That said, crash dieting should not be done before surgery. Any weight loss should be slow and steady, paired with a healthy diet. Do not use dieting pills. You will need to be in good health in order to heal properly after face lift surgery. Good blood pressure control is also essential to prevent the risk of post operative bleeding. If you are on blood pressure medication the doctor managing the medication must confirm that your blood pressure if consistently within normal limits.
