With summer just a couple of weeks away and the warm heat already threatening to bear down on us, JUVA Skin & Laser Center wants to remind you to take precautions to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays.
If you've suffered from sun damage to your skin already, we have a variety of treatments that can help remedy the damage. Sun damage can cause your skin to appear thin, dull, and give it less elasticity. Your skin may also develop wrinkles from the sun. In addition to these issues, sun damage may cause the following:
- Age spots
- Higher rate of mole development
- Keratoses (raised, rough patches of skin)
- Skin cancer
At our center, our expert team of dermatologists, led by Dr. Bruce Katz can perform a variety of techniques from our MediSpa to revitalize your skin. If that doesn't achieve the desired results, we may perform laser skin resurfacing techniques to correct your sun-damaged skin.
Laser skin resurfacing works by removing the outer-most layers of skin. The exposed skin will regenerate without the wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. This can be done using full ablative skin resurfacing, in which the laser removes the outer layers of skin and then you would need to take a couple days of relaxation, allowing the red, exposed skin to heal.
The other skin resurfacing option is known as fractional skin resurfacing and doesn't require the downtime of full ablative skin resurfacing. In this option, microscopic wells are created in the skin that penetrate and stimulate healing.
