During the month of May, our Manhattan dermatologist, Dr. Bruce Katz, likes to join with multiple national organizations in raising awareness because it’s Skin Cancer Prevention Month. Skin cancer affects upwards of two million Americans every year, however, it is completely preventable. We encourage you and your family to always wear sunblock, avoid sun exposure during the middle of the day, to perform self-checks of your skin, and to visit our dermatologist for annual skin cancer prevention screenings.
Should you visit us and discover that your skin has become damaged by the sun, we are proud to offer treatments using photodynamic therapy that will help reverse the damage.
When your skin is damaged by the sun, you may have an increase in wrinkles and fine lines and may have dark spots appear. Utilizing photodynamic therapy, we can help to rid your skin of these imperfections. We do this in the following manner:
- Perform microdermabrasion to prepare the area that needs treatment
- Place aminolevulinic acid (ALA) on the area that needs to be treated
- Utilize our photodynamic laser to cause the ALA to activate and help destroy the damaged skin cells
Photodynamic therapy for sun damaged skin usually requires six treatments and you will begin to notice a difference after the fourth treatment. It is an optimal choice to reverse sun damage and help to restore your skin to its younger, healthier appearance.
We hope you are protecting your skin, but if you have an area that may need treatment, please contact JUVA Skin & Laser Center today for an appointment. Call us at (212) 688-5882.
